For Immediate Release
November 4, 2011
In Franklin County
The following work is planned in the Franklin County area on the specified dates and times. All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4
Interstate 70 (East Side) – (NEW) The ramp from I-70 east to I-270 north will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. for pavement repair.
Instate 270 (Southwest Side) – Beginning at 7 p.m., 270 south will be reduced to two lanes between Broad Street and US 62 so crews can switch southbound traffic to the northbound side. At 9 p.m. Friday, 270 south will be reduced to one lane between US 62 and Broad Street.
The entrance and exit ramps at Georgesville Road will close at 11 p.m. on Friday for pavement restriping. To access I-270 south from Georgesville Road, the detour is Broad Street to I-270. The detour for the Georgesville Road exit is I-270 to Broad Street to Georgesville.
By Saturday at 7 a.m., there will be two lanes of 270 maintained in both directions between 62 and Broad Street, but southbound traffic will be travelling on the northbound side. Access to the ramps at Broad Street, Georgesville Road and US 62 will be maintained using a traffic configuration called a crossover.
A crossover means that one direction of traffic will cross over, through the permanent median, to the other side of the road so that both directions of traffic are on the same side, which allows crews to work safely and more efficiently on that section of I-270.
Motorists will use crossovers to access 270 south and to exit the interstate. The crossovers are located south of Broad Street, north and south of Georgesville Road and 62.
The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph so drivers should allow for extra time for their commute and to adjust to the new traffic pattern.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 6
Interstate 71 (South Side) – (NEW) I-71 south will be reduced to one lane at Frank Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pavement repair. Completion date: November 10.
Interstate 70 (West Side) – (NEW) I-70 west will be reduced to one lane between Hilliard-Rome Road and North Hague Avenue from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for pavement repair.
Cleveland Avenue (Downtown) – Cleveland Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Jack Gibbs Boulevard and Jefferson Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for drainage work. Completion: November 4.
US Route 40 (West Side) – US 40 will be reduced to one lane in each direction at Grener Avenue from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to construct a left turn lane on West Broad Street. Completion date: November 9.
Interstate 71/State Route 665 (South Side) – The ramp from I-71 north to SR 665 is closed for new construction. The detour is 71 north to US 62 to SR 665 to 71 north. The closure duration is 30 days or less, weather permitting. Completion date: November 12.
Fourth Street (Downtown) – There will be a barrier wall down the middle of Fourth Street between Nationwide Boulevard and Goodale Street which will divide traffic as ODOT works to replace the Fourth Street bridge deck. Two lanes of traffic in each direction plus a pedestrian walkway will be maintained. Access to I-670 east and west will also be maintained. Completion date: December 3.
Hilliard-Rome Road (West Side) – Hilliard-Rome Road is reduced to one lane in each direction using temporary pavement between Westchester Woods Boulevard and Roberts Road for widening.
Left hand turns are allowed at the following locations:
Traveling both northbound and southbound on Hilliard-Rome Road at Westchester Woods Boulevard.
Traveling southbound on Hilliard-Rome Road at the service drive by Chick-Fil-A (opposite of Tanglewood Park Boulevard).
Traveling both northbound and southbound on Hilliard-Rome Road at Nike Drive.
Southbound traffic trying to access The Market at Hilliard should use the service drive opposite Tanglewood Park Boulevard or continue south to Westchester Woods Boulevard.
Northbound traffic trying to access Tanglewood Park Boulevard or the Tanglewood Plaza shopping area should use Westchester Woods Boulevard.
This traffic pattern will remain in effect until November.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert since heavy construction equipment will be moving in and out of the work zone.
Interstate 71 State Route 665 (South Side) – Motorists will notice several traffic pattern changes as they travel through the Interstate 71 State Route 665 Interchange in Grove City.
Travelling south on I-71, motorists will be able to exit at SR 665 but will not be able to access Old Haughn Road or the new Haughn Road.
For motorists west of the interchange, but travelling east on SR 665, the roadway will be open, and they will not have to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn Road to access I-71. If eastbound 665 drivers do want to access Old Haughn Road, they will have to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn Road.
At the intersection of New Haughn Road and Old Haughn Road, right turns will not be permitted; you will only be able to turn north onto Old Haughn Road.
If you are east of the interchange, but travelling west, there is still one lane in each direction on SR 665 and you can access both directions of I-71, but cannot turn right onto Old Haughn Road because of the new exit ramp from I-71 south. To access, Old Haughn, you will need to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn.
Construction began last year on the $22 million dollar project that will create a single point urban interchange at I-71/SR 665 similar to the I-270 and Sawmill Road interchange. Completion date: August 2012.
Interstate 270 (Southwest Side) -- Northbound traffic between Broad Street and Roberts Road will be in three lanes shifted over to the far right. This new traffic pattern will remain in effect until November 2012.
The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph so drivers should allow for extra time for their commute and remain alert since this is a seven mile construction zone.
Interstate 71/670 (Downtown) –The ramp from I-71 north to I-670 west will be closed until November 2012 to begin construction of the crossovers which will allow traffic to be rerouted on I-670 east. Crossing over traffic allows crews to begin work sooner on new bridges and add a lane for I-670 east traffic. The detour will be I-70 to SR 315.
Interstate 670 (Downtown) – The ramp from Jack Gibbs Boulevard to I-670 west will be closed until November 2012 to begin construction of the crossovers which will allow traffic to be rerouted on I-670 east. Crossing over traffic allows crews to begin work sooner on new bridges and add a lane for I-670 east traffic. There will be two detours: Either Cleveland Avenue to Mount Vernno Avenue to 4th Street to I-670 or Cleveland Avenue to 5th Avenue to I-670.
Interstate 71 (Downtown) – The ramp from Long Street to I-71 north will be closed until November 2012 for the Columbus Crossroads project. The detour is 17th Street to Broad Street to 4th Street to I-670.
Interstate 71 (Downtown) – The ramp from I-71 south to Spring Street will be closed until November 2012 for the Columbus Crossroads Project. The detour is I-71 to Broad Street to Cleveland Avenue. A temporary ramp to Spring Street from I-71 south will open next month.
Interstate 670 (Downtown) – The ramp from I-670 east to Broad Street will be closed for the Columbus Crossroads Project. The detour is Cleveland Avenue or 3rd Street to Broad Street.
Interstate 71/670 (Downtown) – The ramps from Broad Street to I-71 north and I-670 west will be closed until 2013 to ensure there are two thru lanes of traffic during construction and adequate room for the contractor to work. Once the first project is complete, there will be three lanes of traffic in both directions on 71. The detour will be Broad Street to 4th Street to I-670 to I-71.
