UPCOMING WORK
In Franklin County
The following work is planned in the Franklin County area on the specified dates and times. All work is weather dependent; it may be postponed or cancelled without prior notice.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 14
US Route 40 (West Side) – (NEW) – US 40 (W. Broad Street) will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Georgesville Road and Grener Avenue from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge work. Completion date: February 17.
ONGOING WORK
Fourth Street (Downtown) – The left lane of Fourth Street between Nationwide Boulevard and Goodale Street is closed for bridge work. The expected opening is March 1.
Demorest Road (South side) – Demorest Road will be reduced to one lane of two-way traffic underneath I-270 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Completion date: April 1.
Alkire Road (South side) – Alkire Road will be reduced to one lane of two-way traffic underneath I-270 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for bridge work. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers. Completion date: April 1.
Hilliard-Rome Road (West Side) – Hilliard-Rome Road is reduced to one lane in each direction between Westchester Woods Boulevard and Roberts Road for widening.
Left turn lanes are available in both directions at all intersections.
Drivers are reminded to stay alert since heavy construction equipment will be moving in and out of the work zone. Completion date: November 2012.
Interstate 71 State Route 665 (South Side) – Motorists will notice several traffic pattern changes as they travel through the Interstate 71 State Route 665 Interchange in Grove City.
Starting December 6, the new ramp from I-71 north to SR 665 will be open.
Travelling south on I-71, motorists will be able to exit at SR 665 but will not be able to access Old Haughn Road or the new Haughn Road.
For motorists west of the interchange, but travelling east on SR 665, the roadway will be open, and they will not have to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn Road to access I-71. If eastbound 665 drivers do want to access Old Haughn Road, they will have to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn Road.
At the intersection of New Haughn Road and Old Haughn Road, right turns will not be permitted; you will only be able to turn north onto Old Haughn Road.
If you are east of the interchange, but travelling west, there is still one lane in each direction on SR 665 and you can access both directions of I-71, but cannot turn right onto Old Haughn Road because of the new exit ramp from I-71 south. To access, Old Haughn, you will need to use Gateway West to New Haughn Road to Old Haughn.
Construction began last year on the $22 million dollar project that will create a single point urban interchange at I-71/SR 665 similar to the I-270 and Sawmill Road interchange. Completion date: August 2012.
Interstate 270 (Southwest Side) -- Three lanes will be maintained in each direction between Roberts Road and Broad Street. One of the three southbound lanes will be a contraflow lane.
For the I-270 project, the contraflow lane begins just south of Roberts Road and means the left lane of southbound traffic will cross over to the northbound side of the road. A portable barrier wall will separate the southbound contraflow lane and the three northbound lanes.
Motorists travelling southbound who wish to exit at I-70 or Broad Street should stay in the right two lanes of I-270 south. The contraflow lane can be used as an express lane for those who do not wish to exit at I-70 or Broad Street.
Two lanes will be maintained in each direction between Broad Street and US 62. All ramps will remain open.
The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph so drivers should allow for extra time for their commute and remain alert since this is a seven mile construction zone. Completion: November 2012
Interstate 71/670 (Downtown) –The ramp from I-71 north to I-670 west will be closed until November 2012 to begin construction of the crossovers which will allow traffic to be rerouted on I-670 east. Crossing over traffic allows crews to begin work sooner on new bridges and add a lane for I-670 east traffic. The detour will be I-70 to SR 315.
Interstate 670 (Downtown) – The ramp from Jack Gibbs Boulevard to I-670 west will be closed until November 2012 to begin construction of the crossovers which will allow traffic to be rerouted on I-670 east. Crossing over traffic allows crews to begin work sooner on new bridges and add a lane for I-670 east traffic. There will be two detours: Either Cleveland Avenue to Mount Vernon Avenue to 4th Street to I-670 or Cleveland Avenue to 5th Avenue to I-670.
Interstate 71 (Downtown) – The ramp from Long Street to I-71 north will be closed until November 2012 for the Columbus Crossroads project. The detour is 17th Street to Broad Street to 4th Street to I-670.
Interstate 71 (Downtown) – The ramp from I-71 south to Spring Street will be closed until November 2012 for the Columbus Crossroads Project. The detour is I-71 to Broad Street to Cleveland Avenue. A temporary ramp to Spring Street from I-71 south will open next month.
Interstate 670 (Downtown) – The ramp from I-670 east to Broad Street will be closed for the Columbus Crossroads Project. The detour is Cleveland Avenue or 3rd Street to Broad Street.
Interstate 71/670 (Downtown) – The ramps from Broad Street to I-71 north and I-670 west will be closed until 2013 to ensure there are two thru lanes of traffic during construction and adequate room for the contractor to work. Once the first project is complete, there will be three lanes of traffic in both directions on 71. The detour will be Broad Street to 4th Street to I-670 to I-71.
