West Side Update
ODOT has a team of bridge inspectors and engineers on site to examine both the I-70 east and I-70 west bridges to see if they are structurally sound after this morning’s tanker fire.
The tanker, carrying 8,000 gallons of ethanol, rolled over and caught fire.
The tanker was right under the I-70 east bridge on the ramp from I-270 south to I-70 east.
Right now, the bridge is too hot for ODOT engineers to inspect.
The Fire Department continues to apply foam to the charred tanker.
· I-270 north and south mainline is open
· One lane of I-70 east is now open, but drivers are forced to exit to I-270 south
· I-70 west traffic must exit at I-270 north
· I-270 south traffic cannot get onto I-70 east, drivers are forced to take I-70 west
