West Side Update
The Ohio Department of Transportation didn’t make the deadline. ODOT beat it.
After the contractor, Shelly and Sands worked virtually around the clock, through rain, wind and temperatures so warm the heat index was in the triple digits, ODOT is proud to announce that a vital corridor in Central Ohio – the 70 EB bridge damaged by fire 20 days ago—will open ahead of schedule by 12 days.
On July 1, a tanker carrying 8000 gallons of ethanol crashed and burst into flames on the ramp from 270 SB to 70 EB causing so much damage that a span of the bridge along with a section of roadway had to be completely rebuilt.
Meanwhile thousands of Central Ohio drivers were impacted every day as lanes were re-routed, and ramps closed to accommodate the emergency reconstruction.
By 6 AM Tuesday morning, the new 70 EB bridge will be open and so will the ramp from 270 SB to 70 EB where the tanker crashed. There will be two lanes in each direction for 70.
The ramp from 70 EB to 270 NB will also be open by Tuesday morning, and the ramp from 70 EB to 270 SB will have two lanes back open instead of one.
To get everything opened by Tuesday, there will be lane restrictions and ramp closures overnight Monday into Tuesday. A separate traffic advisory will be released.
By Wednesday morning’s rush hour, Roberts Road will be back in its original configuration, and the ramp from 270 NB to 70 WB will be open.
