Cleveland Avenue Bridge Halfway Complete
Traffic will switch to new bridge for the remainder of the project
COLUMBUS – (NEW) The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) project to replace the Cleveland Avenue bridge over Interstate 270 has reached a milestone. The new bridge on the Northeast Side of Franklin County is halfway complete.
That means ODOT will switch traffic onto the new part of the bridge later this week. Once traffic is shifted, construction crews can rebuild the other half of the bridge.
The number of lanes will remain the same – two lanes for northbound Cleveland Avenue and one lane for southbound. The right lane of southbound Cleveland Avenue coming from Schrock Road will remain an exit only lane to I-270 west.
To get traffic shifted over to the new bridge, Cleveland Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction on the bridge overnight Thursday, June 11 and Friday, June 12 starting at 9 p.m. All ramps will remain open.
By 5 a.m. Saturday, both directions of Cleveland Avenue traffic will be on the new bridge. Motorists will notice the new part of the bridge is higher than the old bridge. Raising the bridge gives trucks on I-270 an additional 2 ½ feet of clearance under Cleveland Avenue.
This $8.6 million improvement project is expected to be complete in October.
