MINOR CHANGE, MAJOR PROGRESS
New northbound pavement ready for action
FRIDAY, JUNE 7
Interstate 270 (West Side) – (NEW) Tonight, ODOT will switch I-270 north traffic on the West Side from old pavement to new. Saturday morning, there will be still be three northbound lanes including the express lane, but drivers will notice a smoother ride on the new pavement.
Between Broad Street and I-70, I-270 north traffic will move to the newly constructed inside lanes so crews can work to rebuild the outside lanes. This traffic switch is an indicator of the progress on this mega-highway project.
This is the largest reconstruction project of 1-270, seven miles in each direction, since the interstate was built more than 50 years ago. Even though the completion date for this $80 million project is August 2014, all lanes are expected to be open this year.
In order to make the switch this weekend, I-270 north will be reduced to one lane between Georgesville Road and Roberts Road from 9 p.m. tonight until Saturday at noon. The following ramps will also be closed overnight:
· I-270 north to I-70 east
Detour: I-270 north to Cemetery Rd to I-270 south to I-70 east
· I-270 north to US 40
Detour: I-270 north to Georgesville Rd to US 40
· US 40 west to I-270 north
Detour: US 40 west to I-270 south to Georgesville Rd to I-270 north
Saturday afternoon, all lanes and ramps will be open in the new configuration.
