New Traffic Pattern Coming to Cleveland Avenue
Work to replace bridge over I-270 starts tomorrow night
COLUMBUS – Warmer temperatures can only mean one thing: ODOT is ready to resume construction on Cleveland Avenue on the Northeast Side of Franklin County.
By Thursday’s morning commute, both directions of Cleveland Avenue traffic will be shifted into the northbound lanes. Two lanes of northbound traffic and one lane of southbound traffic will be maintained over I-270 for the duration of construction.
That means starting Thursday, the right lane of Cleveland Avenue south coming from Westerville will be exit only to I-270 west. Only the left lane will be able to continue south on Cleveland Avenue.
ODOT will also post signs for an alternate route for motorists on Cleveland Avenue that need to get south of I-270. Coming from Westerville, drivers can take I-270 west to I-71 south to SR 161 east to Cleveland Avenue.
Last year, the contractor completed work to reconfigure the ramps at I-270 and Cleveland Avenue. This year, crews will raise and replace the Cleveland Avenue bridge over the interstate. The bridge will be rebuilt half at a time so that traffic can be maintained throughout construction.
To shift traffic into this new pattern, here’s how traffic will be impacted.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 11 & THURSDAY, MARCH 12
Cleveland Avenue – (NEW) Cleveland Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Schrock Road and Community Park Drive from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. All ramps will be maintained.
By 5 a.m. Thursday, two northbound lanes and one southbound lane will be open on Cleveland Avenue.
This $8.6 million project is expected to be complete in October of this year.
