UPDATE: Work on I-71 South this Weekend CANCELLED due to Weather
Weather permitting, the work is rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 7 and the new traffic pattern will be in effect by Saturday, Oct. 8
(COLUMBUS) – (NEW) Driving on a new roadway won’t be the only change for motorists on southbound Interstate 71 this weekend. If you take the exit from Stringtown Road to I-71 south, you will be on a new, temporary ramp. A concrete barrier will separate drivers on the ramp from the work zone and thru traffic before they merge with mainline Interstate 71 south.
This temporary traffic configuration at the ramp will be in place for about a month.
Last weekend, traffic on I-71 north between SR 665 and Stringtown Road was switched onto new pavement. When traffic on southbound I-71 is switched, crews will then begin work on the other half of the roadway.
The project, which began last year, is widening both directions of Interstate 71 between SR 665 and Stringtown Rd. and is expected to be complete in 2017.
Here’s how traffic will be impacted, weather permitting:
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7
Interstate 71 SOUTH (ONLY)
8 P.M. – I-71 south will be reduced to one lane between I-270 and SR 665.
9 P.M. – The ramp from SR 665 east and west to I-71 south will close. The detour for SR 665 west is US 62 to I-71 south. The detour for SR 665 east is I-71 north to I-270 west to I-71 south.
9:30 P.M. – The following ramps will close:
Stringtown Road to I-71 south
Detour: WB Stringtown Road will take US 62 south to I-71 south. EB Stringtown Road will take I-71 north to I-270 west to I-71 south.
I-270 east to I-71 south
Detour: I-270 east to I-71 north to I-270 west to I-71 south (three loop ramps)
10 P.M. – The ramps from I-71 south to Stringtown Road and SR 665 will close. The detour is I-71 south to US 62 to I-71 north to Stringtown Road or SR 665.
1 P.M. SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8 - ALL EXITS AND LANES OF I-71 NORTH OPEN
When all ramps and lanes reopen Saturday afternoon, drivers coming from Stringtown Road onto I-71 south will be on the ramp for a mile before merging with the southbound thru lanes.
While using the ramp from Stringtown Road to I-71 south, concrete barrier wall will be on the left until the ramp traffic merges onto the highway south of White Road.
Remember to slow down or move over all roadside workers. It’s the law here in Ohio.
