Expect Nightly Lane and Ramp Closures for all of
Drivers on the south
side can expect nightly lane and ramp closures for the next few weeks in order
to get traffic on Interstate 71 into its new pattern before the first snow
The work will be in
both directions of Interstate 71 will be between Frank and Stringtown
The $113 million
project that kicked off this summer is building an extra lane in each direction
between SR 315 and Stringtown Road as well as constructing several new bridges
and ramps to Stringtown Road. Completion is 2020.
Before construction on
that extra lane can begin, the contractor has to make sure the same number of
travel lanes are available for the motoring public during peak travel
- Rebuild the shoulder
on the right side so that it is safe and passable for traffic. Basically the
shoulder lane becomes a travel lane.
- Add pavement to the
right of that so there is a shoulder.
This phase of work also
includes work on the Greenlawn Avenue Bridge.
Beginning October 9,
weather permitting, the ramp from Greenlawn Ave. to I-71 north will be closed
between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. The detour will be I-71 south to SR 104 to I-71
UPDATE Greenlawn Exit
Closing: Over the summer, a tentative date of
October 5 was announced for the 15-day closure of the Greenlawn Ave. exit from
I-71 south. That exit will NOT be closing this year. Instead, it will be next
year, but a date has not been set.
