Traffic Switch on I-71 NORTH Set For This
Impacted One Night Only
– (NEW) So
much progress has been made on the Interstate 71 widening project south of
Columbus, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is ready to switch
traffic so the next major phase of construction can begin.
The project, which began last year, is
building a third lane in each direction on I-71 between Stringtown Road and
State Route 665 In order to maintain two travel lanes during construction,
crews built the new roadway a half at a time.
By switching traffic onto the new roadway,
crews can starting building the second half.
ODOT will use the part of the next two
weekends to get both north and southbound Interstate 71 traffic onto the new
pavement. Weekend nights are best to switch traffic because travel volumes are
Here’s the plan, weather permitting:
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23
Interstate 71 NORTH (ONLY)
7 P.M. – I-71
north is reduced to one lane between SR 665 and Stringtown Road.
9 P.M. – The following ramps will close:
- I-71 north to SR 665. The detour is I-71 north to I-270 west to I-71 south
to SR 665
- SR 665 east and west to I-71 north. The detour is I-71 south to Rt. 62 to
- The ramp from I-71 north to Stringtown Rd. The detour is I-71 north to I-270
west to I-71 south to Stringtown Rd.
Note: These are the ‘posted’ detour routes
that will be signed. Drivers, especially those familiar with the roads are free
to take alternate routes.
The ramp from Stringtown Rd. to I-71 north
will remain open I-71 south will not be impacted this weekend.
11 A.M. SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 - ALL EXITS AND
LANES OF I-71 NORTH OPEN
Next weekend, weather permitting, SB I-71
traffic will be switched beginning Friday night, September 30. Notification on
how traffic will be impacted will be released next week.
