West Side Update
Two lanes of 70 EB are now open.
Less than two days after a fiery tanker crash on Interstate 70, ODOT has opened a new temporary road that will carry two lanes of 70 east and westbound traffic over Interstate 270.
Called a crossover because the eastbound traffic will literally cross over on to the westbound side just before I-270 and cross back over onto the eastbound side just before Wilson Rd.
This new traffic pattern will be in effect for 30 days while the contractor replaces a section of the bridge and repairs the pavement.
To keep traffic moving on Interstate 70, several ramps will be closed. ODOT has signage on the highway as well as step by step directions of what’s closed and the detour on the project website. Visit www.transportation.ohio.gov/I70WestSide
ODOT Statement attributable to Director Jerry Wray:
"ODOT and our contractor partner, Shelly and Sands, are working hard to re-open I-70 and ramps to I-270 on the west side of Columbus. We're pleased with the great progress, but there is much work still to do. As we work to replace and repair the damaged bridge, I encourage everyone to slow down, pay attention to the road and drive safe. We want everyone to make it home safe at the end of the day. I know this is a major inconvenience, but we appreciate your continued patience as we resolve this difficult situation."
