Widening Begins on I-71 in Grove City
Changes for drivers start this weekend
COLUMBUS – This weekend marks the beginning of the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) project to build a third lane in each direction on Interstate 71 on the South Side of Franklin County.
The ODOT project will widen I-71 between SR 665 and Stringtown Road in Grove City. Last month crews installed temporary pavement in both directions of I-71 so two travel lanes will be maintained.
Starting this weekend, drivers on I-71 south will be shifted over to the outside lanes as they travel through Grove City. The number of lanes won’t change – two lanes will be maintained, but in a new configuration.
Moving traffic to the outside lanes will give crews room to work in the median. After southbound traffic is shifted over this weekend, I-71 northbound traffic will follow later this month.
This change will happen overnight Friday into Saturday morning. Here’s how drivers will be impacted.
At 8 p.m. Friday, I-71 south will be reduced to one lane while crews move traffic over. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Saturday.
The two-year, $37 million project is expected to be complete Summer 2017.
