Traffic Signals Readjusted at Busy Intersection
ODOT forces respond to I-71/U.S. Route 36/State Route 37
Delaware—Traffic engineers and safety personnel with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), District 6, have readjusted the timing of five traffic signals at the Interstate 71, U.S. Route 36 and State Route 37 interchange in Delaware County.
Increased congestion and back-ups at the interchange the last several days led ODOT experts to examine the computerized signals and hardware at the interchange. Some of the equipment was faulty and has since been replaced. ODOT also synchronized the timing of all the signals in an effort to get improved traffic flow.
ODOT District 6 will continue to actively monitor the traffic at the interchange for the next few days.
Long term, ODOT is working to install video cameras at the I-71/U.S. Route 36/State Route 37 interchange to monitor traffic 24-hours a day. It’s expected those traffic video images would also be available to the motoring public to help them plan before they go.
