East Side Improvements Project Nearing Completion
Drivers Should Prepare for 30-day Ramp Closure at Hamilton Road

COLUMBUS (Wednesday, July 21, 2010)  As the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continues to work on safety improvements at a well traveled east side exit ramp, drivers should be prepared to a find an alternate route when the I-70 west ramp to Hamilton Road closes. Beginning Monday at 6 a.m. and for the next 30 days, drivers will not be able to use this ramp.

The detour is I-70 west to James Road to I-70 east to Hamilton Road.

ODOT started the safety improvement project at the I-70/Hamilton Road intersection earlier this year. When complete, the ramp from I-70 west to Hamilton Road will be realigned and reconfigured with a continuous right turn lane, two wider dual left turn lanes, and a new traffic signal.

ODOT data showed more than 250 accidents in one year at this intersection and the majority of the crashes were read-end accidents.

The $930,000 project is expected to be completed this fall.
