For Immediate Release
Route Selected for New Delaware County Roadway
Second Public Meeting on I-71/36-37
(October 6, 2016) – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has
recommended a preferred route for the new roadway that will improve the
Interstate 71/Route 36-37 interchange in Delaware County. Constructed south of
the current interchange, the new roadway will reduce congestion and improve
east-west connections for commuters and freight.
County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and that’s why ODOT
and our stakeholders must work together to ensure our infrastructure is safe,
efficient and supports future growth," said Jack Marchbanks, ODOT District 6
months ago, ODOT held the first in a series of public meetings on the future
southern interchange project. Three possible routes for the new roadway—called
Sunbury Parkway—were under consideration. After months of analyzing public
comments and engineering design specifications, the result is one route that is
preferred over the other two because it meets more of the project needs and
next step is detailed design of this new five-lane road including exact
alignment location,” said Marchbanks.
will hold its second in a series of public meetings on the project at the end
of this month. Along with details on why this route was selected, ODOT will
also discuss key concerns raised by the public. Those are:
- Re-alignment of 3 B’s and K Road
- Extension of Fourwinds Dr.
- Traffic Impacts to Sherman Road; and
- Overall noise to the community.
public meeting will be held at the Northgate Church on Route 36-37 in Sunbury
from 5 to 7 p.m. on October 20.
first phase of construction is estimated to cost $54 million and includes
construction of the new roadway west from I-71 to Africa Road. Construction
could begin as early as 2018.
