West Side Project on Interstate 70 Begins Monday
Columbus (September 23, 2015) – The contractor will begin work this Monday, September 28 on the Interstate 70 widening project on the west side of Columbus between Hilliard Rome Road and Interstate 270.
The project will add lanes in both directions on I-70, rehabilitate several bridges, resurface the roadway and construct noise walls between I-270 and Hilliard Rome Road.
To start, the only traffic impacts will be at night between the hours of 7 pm and 5 am. Before the first snowfall, westbound 70 drivers will still have two lanes of travel but will be shifted to allow the contractor to work on the I-70 WB bridge over 270. This is not the same bridge that caught fire this past July.
Interstate 70 eastbound traffic will not be impacted this year.
Between now and November, the contractor, Complete General Construction will build the temporary pavement to shift traffic. There will still be two lanes in each direction on Interstate 70.
ODOT will release daily advisories every time traffic is impacted during night time hours.
The $47 million project is set to be complete in 2017.
