SR 315 Slope Stabilization

State Route 315 Slope Stabilization Project

October 2010 Update

On October 14, 2010 ODOT held a second public meeting to share a preferred alternative with the public and get comments on the proposal. The preverred alternative includes stabilizing the river bank both north and south of SR 750 using natural vegetation. The project also includes safety improvements at the intersection of SR 750 and SR 315 including reducing the steep grade on SR 750 west of the intersection and additng left turn lanes on SR 750. The preferred alternatives can be viewed below:

On December 3, 2008 ODOT invited the public to view several proposals for a new project along State Route 315 in Delaware County concerning the embankment from Jewett Road to just north of SR 750. Over 75 people gathered at the Liberty Township Hall in Powell to see the proposals, ask questions, and make comments. This proposed project will stabilize two sections of SR 315, just north of Jewett Road and just north of SR 750. The Olentangy River has eroded the riverbank at these locations causing distress to SR 315.

Several options are being studied to stabilize the bank. These options include using various concrete retaining walls and/or natural options that contain vegetation and would blend in to the existing scenery over time. Some of the alternatives also look at installing turn lanes on SR 315 at the intersection with SR 750 even though the primary focus of the project is to stabilize the slope. More information on each of the alternatives and various options for retaining walls can be found below.

Alternatives

Alternative 0 (Click for Graphic)
Alternative 0 would address the slope stability issues by constructing a retaining wall and/or using vegetated reinforcement along the east side of SR 315. The existing alignment of SR 315 would not change and no turn lanes would be constructed.
Alternative 1 (Click for Graphic)
Alternative 1 would address the slope stability issues by constructing a retaining wall and/or using vegetated reinforcement along the east side of SR 315. SR 315 would remain in the current location and be widened to the west to allow left turn lanes on SR 315 at the SR 750 intersection. A retaining wall would be constructed along the west side of SR 315. This wall would have an average height of approximately 13’ with a maximum height of 23’.
Alternative 1B (Click for Graphic)
Alternative 1B would address the slope stability issues by constructing a retaining wall and/or using vegetated reinforcement along the east side of SR 315. SR 315 would shift west and be widened to allow left turn lanes on SR 315 at the SR 750 intersection. A retaining wall would be constructed along the west side of SR 315. This wall would have an average height of approximately 13.5’ with a maximum height of 26’.
Alternative 2 (Click for Graphic)
Alternative 2 would address the slope stability issues by constructing a retaining wall and/or using vegetated reinforcement along the east side of SR 315. SR 315 would shift to the east and be widened to allow left turn lanes on SR 315 at the SR 750 intersection. Shifting to the east would allow the retaining wall on the west side of SR 315 to have an average height of 12’ with a maximum height of 23’.
Alternative 3 (Click for Graphic)
Alternative 3 is similar to Alternative 1B except it shortens the project limits on SR 315. Alternative 3 would address the slope stability issues by constructing a retaining wall and/or using vegetated reinforcement along the east side of SR 315. SR 315 would shift west and be widened to allow left turn lanes on SR 315 at the SR 750 intersection. A retaining wall would be constructed along the west side of SR 315. This wall would have an average height of approximately 14’ with a maximum height of 23’.

Stabilization Options
