Full closure of southbound I-71 scheduled weekend of Aug. 1-3
HAMILTON COUNTY  (Friday, July 18, 2014) – Active construction to create a new, full movement interchange at Interstate 71 and Martin Luther King Dr. begins next week with bridge demolition work.
Work to begin the dismantling of the Conrail bridge located just north of the Martin Luther King Drive overpass will require nightly single lane closures on southbound I-71 beginning at 7 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 9 p.m., with all lanes reopened to traffic by 6 a.m. the next day. This work will take place from Monday, July 21 through Friday, Aug. 1.
A full closure of southbound I-71 at Dana Avenue will be in place from 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 with the detour route provided nearer to that date.
Motorists attending events in downtown Cincinnati that weekend are advised to plan accordingly.
The $80.8 million contract to construct this new interchange was awarded to Kokosing Construction Company. This new interchange will reduce travel times and promote economic vitality within the Uptown Cincinnati community. Work is expected to take three years with completion scheduled for Aug. 2017.
