Bridge work heralds
startup of I-71/MLK interchange construction
Full closure of southbound I-71
scheduled weekend of Aug. 1-3
HAMILTON
COUNTY (Friday,
July 18, 2014) – Active construction to create a new, full movement
interchange at Interstate 71 and Martin Luther King Dr. begins next week with
bridge demolition work.
Work to
begin the dismantling of the Conrail bridge
located just north of the Martin Luther King Drive overpass will require
nightly single lane closures on southbound I-71 beginning at 7 p.m. followed by
double lane closures at 9 p.m., with all lanes reopened to traffic by 6 a.m.
the next day. This work will take place from Monday, July 21 through Friday,
Aug. 1.
A
full closure of southbound I-71at Dana Avenue will be in place from 10 p.m.
Friday, Aug. 1 through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4 with the detour route being west on SR 562 (Norwood Lateral) to southbound I-75 or west on I-275 to southbound I-75.
Motorists
attending events in downtown Cincinnati that weekend are advised to plan
accordingly.
The
$80.8 million contract to construct this new interchange was awarded to
Kokosing Construction Company. This new interchange will reduce travel times
and promote economic vitality within the Uptown Cincinnati community. Work is
expected to take three years with completion scheduled for Aug. 2017.
