Interstate 70 Rest Area Closures
Preble County (Monday, August 6, 2018) – Construction work on a new eastbound Interstate 70 rest area in Preble County
has begun. The estimated reopening of the new facility and parking area will
occur late winter or early spring.
The demolition for the westbound facility on I-70 will begin in
early fall. There are no current plans to rebuild it at this time.
There is no access to either of the I-70 rest area facilities.
The next available rest area on east I-70 is located 68 miles away
at the Clark and Madison county line (Exit 71).
The next available rest area on west I-70 is located 13 miles away
at Exit 141 in Centerville, Indiana.
More than 60 rest areas have been closed in Ohio since 1992. This
is because of private sector development providing similar services,
environmental issues relating to antiquated onsite water and sewer systems and
facility obsolescence, based on current standards and requirements.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as
the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and
watch for stopped traffic near work zones.
