I-71 work north of Lytle Tunnel to begin June 17

I-71 pavement work north of Lytle Tunnel will begin June 17

Hamilton County (Friday, June 3, 2016) – Pavement work on Interstate 71 just north of the Lytle Tunnel will require various northbound lane closures beginning June 17 at 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. on June 20.

During this time the northbound I-71 entrance ramps from 2nd and 5th streets will be closed.  Traffic will be detoured to 7th Street to Gilbert Avenue to northbound I-71.

This work is to prepare for a longer-term solution that addresses the poor condition of I-71 in this area.

The first project beginning in July will replace the bridge decks just north of the Lytle Tunnel that carries south and northbound I-71 over Eggleston Drive, Butler Street and I-471. Southbound I-71 traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes while work on the southbound lanes occurs. Then, traffic will be maintained in the southbound lanes while work on the northbound lanes occur.  This project will be completed in the fall of 2017.

A second project beginning the summer of 2017 involves repaving both northbound and southbound I-71 from the Lytle Tunnel area to the overhead railroad bridge north of State Route 562 (Norwood Lateral). This project should be completed in the fall 2017.

Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming road closure. All work is dependent upon weather.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
