I-71/MLK Gilbert Ave. lane restrictions

Interstate 71/MLK project update

Hamilton County (Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015) As part of the work to create a new, full movement interchange at Interstate 71 and Martin Luther King Drive, the following restrictions are in place:

Traffic on Gilbert Avenue between Lincoln and Walter avenues will be restricted for 90 days beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13. The lane restrictions are necessary to widen Gilbert Avenue and install new curbs and sidewalks along the route.

Initially, southbound traffic on Gilbert Avenue will be shifted to the northbound lanes, with one lane maintained in each direction. At the conclusion of the work in the southbound lanes all traffic will be shifted to the southbound lanes to allow for construction activities in the northbound lanes. One lane of traffic in each direction will again be maintained. Pedestrian and drive access will be provided to all businesses during construction.

Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work zone and traffic shift.

To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
