Next Phase of Mill Creek Expressway Work Starts

I-75 Mill Creek Expressway Project Continues

LEBANON   (Friday, July 8, 2011)  - The next phase of construction on the $664 million Interstate 75 Mill Creek Expressway Project has started.

Work includes the reconstruction of the Mitchell Avenue interchange as a tight urban diamond, the reconstruction and widening of approximately one mile of I-75, replacement and widening of the structures over Mitchell and Clifton avenues and improvements to Mitchell Avenue.

Work on I-75 will take place from 2,000 feet south of Clifton Avenue to 200 feet north of Mitchell Avenue. This work is the first mainline phase of the larger Mill Creek Expressway project, which is being designed for four future lanes in the corridor.

Traffic will be maintained during construction. There will be no detours of the interstate or Mitchell Avenue traffic. There will be some temporary closures of Mitchell and Clifton for bridge construction

The $53,649,065 contract was awarded to the John J. Jurgensen Company; its completion date is targeted for July 2014. This work follows the I-75 Mill Creek’s inaugural project to construct the Monmouth Street overpass as well as remove the Bates Avenue and pedestrian bridge overpasses. That work, which began last year, is targeted for completion Aug. 31, 2011.

Overall, upon its completion, the eight-phase Mill Creek Expressway Project will improve traffic flow and enhance safety of the I-75 corridor from the Western Hills Viaduct to north of the Paddock Road interchange in Hamilton County. Over the course of 10 years, construction will rehabilitate eight miles of existing lanes and construct an additional lane in each direction. The final phase of work is scheduled for completion May of 2020.

The Mill Creek Expressway also includes updates at the interchanges at Hopple Street, I-74, Norwood Lateral and Paddock Road, as well as the modernization of the Colerain Avenue/Beekman Street interchange with I-74.
