ODOT works to remedy slide issues in District 8

Hamilton County (Wednesday, May 25, 2011)  - As heavy spring rains continue to deluge southwest Ohio, the Ohio Department of Transportation is working to evaluate and repair slides that have impacted two of its routes.

In Hamilton County, the Ridge Road ramp to southbound Interstate 71 remains closed as geotechnical engineers work to monitor and evaluate the extent of damage caused to the pavement and slope as well as develop a design to repair the failure.

“The necessary repairs are much more extensive than originally thought,” said District 8 Deputy Director Steve Mary.  “The slip plane is 30-feet deep and a retaining wall will need to be designed and constructed to re-establish the embankment slope,” he added.

In Clermont County, State Route 133 also remains closed to traffic due to a slide located approximately one mile north of U.S. 52. Again, ODOT engineers are working to evaluate the extent of damage as they develop corrective action to repair the slide and reopen SR 133 to traffic.
