Old SR 73 Relinquished to Clinton County

Old SR 73/Wayne Road Relinquished to Clinton County
Clinton County (Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012)With the relocation of State Route 73, also known as the Wilmington Bypass, completed and opened to traffic more than a year ago, the former section of State Route 73, now known as Wayne Road, is relinquished to the jurisdiction of the Clinton County Engineer’s Office.
This change, effective Dec. 13, comes with the filing of a final journal entry for the abandonment of a portion of State Route 73; as such, this former section of SR 73 will no longer be maintained by the State of Ohio.
Prior to the effective date of abandonment, the Ohio Department of Transportation resurfaced old SR 73 at a cost of $950,000; completed several minor roadway improvements to old SR 73; resurfaced two local haul roads at a cost of $588,000, and rebuilt a portion of Mitchell Road as part of the relocation project.

Constructed in three phases, the eight-mile four-lane Wilmington Bypass relocated State Route 73 north of the city of Wilmington. Following five years of construction, the bypass was open to traffic Nov. 2, 2011.
