Southbound Interstate 71 traffic switch scheduled
to begin next week
Hamilton County (Friday, Sept. 9, 2016) – Pavement work on southbound Interstate 71 just north of the Lytle Tunnel will require a traffic switch next week.
In order to prepare for this switch, the left lane of southbound I-71 will be closed from approximately Gilbert/Reading (Exit 2) to just before the Lytle Tunnel from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12 and Tuesday, Sept. 13. In addition, access from East Liberty Street to southbound I-471 will be closed from midnight Wednesday, Sept. 14 until 5 a.m. Thursday.
Once complete, southbound I-71 traffic will be shifted to the northbound lanes just south of I-471, returning to the southbound side just north of the Lytle Tunnel. This switch is to prepare for replacement of the bridge decks just north of the Lytle Tunnel that carry southbound I-71 over Eggleston Drive, Butler Street and I-471.
During this time, the northbound I-71 entrance ramp from Second Street will remain closed. The detour uses Main Street, Fifth Street and I-71. Additionally, the Third Street ramp from southbound I-71 remains closed with the detour using Gilbert Avenue, East Eighth Street, Sycamore Street and Third Street.
Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work zone and traffic switch. All work is dependent upon weather.
To help ensure the safety of the construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
