Additional Restrictions Slated For U.S. 23
Single-lane restrictions on U.S. 52 next week
Chillicothe (Friday, July 1, 2016) – Additional lane restrictions will be imparted on U.S. 23, north of Lucasville, for construction of the new state Route 823 in Scioto County.
On Wednesday, July 6, U.S. 23 South will be reduced to one, 12-foot lane between S.R. 728 and County Road 55 (Fairground Road), with the passing (left-hand) lane closed to allow for trucks and equipment entering and exiting the work zone via a median crossover.
Currently, U.S. 23 North is also reduced to one lane in the same area for MSE wall and bridge construction at the site of the future interchange. The restrictions to both north and southbound traffic will continue through early August, and motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution.
Along with the U.S. 23 and other road restrictions, U.S. 52 East and West will be restricted between the S.R. 140 and C.R. 550/Wheelersburg exits effective next week.
Beginning Tuesday, July 5, U.S. 52 will be reduced to one, 11-foot lane in each direction for crews from the Portsmouth Joint Venture to construct MSE walls and bridges. They will also be installing drainage, milling and paving as part of the project.
In the spirit of a public-private partnership, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Portsmouth Gateway Group are constructing the new state Route 823, a 16-mile, four-lane, limited access highway from U.S. 23 at Lucasville to U.S. 52 at Sciotoville in Scioto County. The Southern Ohio Veterans Memorial Highway is the department’s first P3 project and the largest, modern earthwork project to be constructed in the state’s history.
