Annual Inspections Under Way For Grant Bridge
Overnight Closures Scheduled Next Week
Chillicothe (Tuesday, September 29, 2014) – As part of its regular maintenance program, the U.S. Grant Bridge in Scioto County is undergoing a series of inspections, requiring lane restrictions and overnight closure.
Crews from Burgess and Niple, Inc., will be performing physical inspections of the bridge during daytime, business hours each day this week as weather permits. Throughout the week the bridge will remain open to traffic; however, crews will be working from along the shoulders, and these will be closed.
Along with the various testing and inspections, they will conduct a deck survey, which will require a full closure of the bridge. The bridge will be closed during the overnight hours Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, October 5-7. The closure will go into effect at 9 p.m. each evening and continue until 5 a.m. the following morning.
Motorists are reminded of the need for additional caution in the work zone, and during periods of closure, traffic will be detoured via the Carl Perkins Bridge and U.S. Route 52.
The annual tests and inspections are part of the state’s annual bridge inspection, maintenance and research program for all bridges maintained by ODOT.
