Area Routes Closed; Level 3 Emergencies Declared
Chillicothe -– With downed power lines, falling tree branches and heavy accumulations of snow and ice, sheriff’s departments in Jackson and Pike counties have been forced to declare Level 3 road emergencies. A Level 3 emergency means that roads are closed to all traffic except emergency personnel.
Numerous routes throughout the area have been affected, including U.S. 35, Ohio-776 and 139 in Jackson County and Ohio-220 and Ohio-335 in Pike County.
In addition, many routes throughout Adams, Lawrence and Scioto counties have been affected, with temporary lane closures and restrictions on U.S. 52 and Ohio-41 in Adams County; Scioto-139; and Lawrence-141, 217, 378, 243, 93, 522, 7 and 650. The combination of ice and snow on tree limbs and power lines may cause more downed trees and outages and, in turn, force more road closures.
Although crews are working to restore closed routes as quickly as possible, travel is discouraged, and those who must travel are advised to exercise extreme caution at all times, and they are reminded that road conditions can change from mile to mile and minute to minute. They are also reminded that all routes are closed to the general public during Level 3 road emergencies.
