Bench Cleaning Slated For U.S. 52, S.R. 7
Chillicothe - Construction is under way for a bench and ditch cleaning project on U.S. Route 52 in Lawrence and Scioto counties, as well as on state Route 7 in Lawrence County.
According to Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, contractors are working at various locations along the route to clear rock and debris from the hillside and ditches.
AThis project is a safety precaution that is routinely taken in order to prevent rock and other materials from falling onto the roadway and creating a potential hazard to motorists,@ said Brushart.
In Scioto County, crews will be working on U.S. 52 between the 24.75 and 25.02-mile markers in New Boston, and in Lawrence County they will be working between the 3.57 and the 5.85-mile markers at Hanging Rock; between the 7.47 and 7.85-mile markers at Ironton; between the 11.25 and 13.20-mile markers near Coal Grove; and between the 18.07 and 18.79-mile markers at South Point. The contractors will also be working at four locations along state Route 7 in the Chesapeake area.
Lane restrictions in the east and westbound direction will be in place in the immediate construction zones, and motorists may encounter periods of delay as the contractors will impart temporary closure of the route for intervals of up to 20 minutes.
DGM Incorporated of Beaver, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of $250,669 to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed by September 30.
