Bridge Inspections Scheduled For Lawrence-217
Temporary Closure Of Route Tomorrow
Chillicothe (Thursday, April 26, 2012) – Following routine inspections earlier this week, a bridge on state Route 217 in Lawrence County will undergo a detailed inspection tomorrow, requiring the route to be closed throughout the day.
The bridge, which is located at the route’s northern junction with S.R. 378, was found to have deterioration and slight crushing on its rear abutment. As a result, the bridge will undergo a repair project, and the legal carrying load will be reduced to 65 percent.
In order to determine the repairs that will be needed, though, inspectors from the Ohio Department of Transportation will undertake a “snooper” inspection of the bridge. This type of inspection employs equipment that provides full access to the structure and allows crews to obtain a detailed assessment.
S.R. 217 will be closed Friday, April 27, from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The route will be closed between S.R. 378 and Township Road 101 (Yellow Creek Road), and while it is closed, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 141 and S.R. 378.
