Bridge Partnership Program Paves Way For Local Project
Jackson’s Harding Avenue bridge replacement set to begin
Chillicothe (Friday, May 29, 2015) – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Partnership Program to provide local governments with the funds needed to replace or repair locally-owned bridges, a bridge replacement project on Harding Avenue in the city of Jackson in Jackson County is set to begin.
Through the Ohio Bridge Partnership Program, approximately $120 million will be invested to repair or replace nearly 220 county and city bridges statewide through Fiscal Year 2017. Projects meeting eligibility criteria will be designed and constructed through the ODOT-Let process with 100% federal funds, meaning no local match funding will be required.
“ODOT has been working with the Ohio County Engineers Association and our local partners to help counties and cities improve the condition of their bridges and make Ohio’s bridges safer,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson. “Although these bridges are not on ODOT’s state highway system, they are still part of Ohio’s transportation network and fixing them is key to maintaining a safe and efficient highway system.”
On Monday, June 8, construction will begin on the Harding Avenue span that is situated over Little Salt Creek between Triumph Street and Veterans Drive in the city of Jackson. The project includes replacing the existing steel truss bridge with a single span, composite steel beam structure and roadway approach work
Harding Avenue will be closed for up to 120 days during the project, and while it is closed, motorists will be detoured via Main and Broadway streets in Jackson.
DGM, Inc. was awarded a contract for approximately $823,831 to replace the bridge, and the project is anticipated to be completed in mid-fall of this year.
