Bridge Rehabilitation Project Slated To Begin
Ramp From S.R. 73/104 North To U.S. 52 To Be Closed
Chillicothe (Thursday, July 1, 2010) – A bridge rehabilitation project over Hygean Run at West Portsmouth will get under way next week, as contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation have begun site preparations to ready for a ramp closure.
According to ODOT District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, crews from the Righter Company will be rehabilitating a bridge deck that is located on the ramp from northbound state routes 73 and 104 to U.S. Route 52 West. Located near the 17.85-mile marker, the bridge is situated over Hygean Run, just east of state Route 852.
“As part of the department’s largest construction program in state history, this is one of the 62 projects totaling nearly $70 million taking place in District 9,” said Brushart. “And while crews are working to upgrade, rehabilitate and modernize our infrastructure, it is also important to remind motorists of the need for additional caution in construction zones and whenever crews are at work.”
Construction is scheduled to get under way Tuesday, July 6, and while crews are at work, the ramp (“Ramp D”) will be closed, and traffic will be detoured via state Route 239 and U.S. Route 52. Although motorists traveling from S.R. 73/104 and S.R. 852 will not have access to U.S. 52 West via the ramp, all traffic on the mainline routes of the state highway system will be maintained and should not be affected by this closure.
The Righter Company of Columbus, Ohio, has been awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $861,650 to rehabilitate the bridge, and the scheduled completion date for all work is October 30, 2010.
