Bridge Repair Project On Tap For Brown-68
Route Slated For Closure Early Next Month
Chillicothe - Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will undertake a bridge repair project on U.S. Route 68 that will require closure of the route beginning early next year.
According to District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, the route is scheduled to be closed at the 25.54-mile marker, just north of New Hope, beginning Monday, January 5, and the closure will remain in effect for up to 120 days, weather permitting.
“Before determining to close the route for this project, we examined several different options that would allow us to maintain traffic on the existing bridge throughout construction,” said Brushart. “However, due to its size and structural integrity, full closure was deemed necessary for the safety of the traveling public.”
Crews from Ratzlaff Construction Company of Chillicothe, Ohio, will be replacing a deteriorated structure located between Township Road 608 (Hauke North Road) and Township Road 63 (Sterling Road). The project includes replacing the deficient deck, beams and wearing surface, as well as repairing the approaches.
While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of state routes 125 and 774, and although the route is anticipated to reopen in early May, the entire project is scheduled to be completed by May 31, 2009.
