Culvert Replacement Project Scheduled Next Week
Brown County Crews Replacing Five Pipes
Chillicothe (Saturday, May 21, 2016) – Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility are scheduled to undertake a series of culvert replacements beginning next week on state Route 221
Beginning Thursday, May 26, and continuing through Thursday, June 2, crews will be replacing five culverts situated between Higginsport and Georgetown on S.R. 221, requiring single-day, daily closure of the route. Located four miles north of Higginsport, the first culvert will be replaced on Thursday, May 26, with crews replacing a second pipe located at the 4.37-mile marker on Friday, May 27.
Following the Memorial Day weekend, crews will return to S.R. 221 to replace culverts located at the 4.59, 5.44 and 7.42-mile markers, closing the route Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. Working their way north each day, crews will close S.R. 221 at the 4.59-mile marker on May 31 and at the 5.44-mile marker on June 1. The final culvert to be replaced is located at the 7.42-mile marker, just south of Georgetown and near Township Road 592 (Hunter Road), and it has been scheduled for June 2.
Weather permitting, S.R. 221 will be closed during daytime, working hours, or from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the route open to evening and overnight travel each day. During periods of closure, motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. 52 at Higginsport, S.R. 505 and S.R. 125 at Georgetown.
