Brown-221 Reduced To One Lane Due To Slip
Chillicothe (Tuesday, May 31, 2011) – Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility have reduced state Route 221 to one lane due to a slip.
The route is restricted to one lane of traffic between the 6.2 and the 6.3-mile markers where a shoulder drop off has occurred. Temporary traffic signals have been installed to maintain traffic until such time that a permanent repair can be made and traffic can be restored to two lanes.
Although the route is reduced to one lane, it will be used as part of a detour for the closure of S.R. 505 this week.
On Wednesday, June 1, S.R. 505 will be closed at the 1.99-mile marker near C.R. 43 (Shinkles Ridge Road) for the first of two culvert replacement projects. Then on Thursday, June 2, crews will close the route again to replace a deteriorated pipe at the 0.68-mile marker, just north of Higginsport.
On both days, S.R. 505 will be closed from approximately 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., with the route open to evening and overnight travel. While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured via U.S. 52 to S.R. 221 at Higginsport to S.R. 125 at Georgetown.
