Brown-32 Emergency Culvert Project Moving Forward
Construction under way, restrictions in effect

Chillicothe (Tuesday, September 13, 2016) – An emergency repair project on state Route 32 in Brown County has begun, and as contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation move forward, lane restrictions are in effect in both the east and westbound directions.
Following bouts of heavy storms and flash flooding last month, a culvert that is located under S.R. 32 at the 0.10-mile marker, immediately east of the Brown-Clermont County line, became severely compromised and was identified for an emergency culvert replacement.
Earlier this month, ODOT awarded a Type A emergency contract to the John R. Jurgensen Company so that construction could begin immediately, and with work under way, the contractors are building a crossover that will be used to divert traffic during the culvert replacement and pavement repair.
Currently, westbound S.R. 32 is reduced to one lane, and eastbound S.R. 32 is reduced to one lane only during daytime, working hours. However, as the project progresses, additional restrictions will be imparted, and bi-directional traffic will be maintained in one lane in each direction in either the west or the eastbound lanes, with traffic diverted by way of the crossover.
Although a timeline to complete the project has yet to be determined, construction is anticipated to take two to three months.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
