Brown-41/763 Improvement Project Moving Into Next Phase
Reconstruction Under Way; Intersection Closure Now Scheduled
Chillicothe (Thursday, April 27, 2017) – With construction for a safety improvement project on state Route 41 in Brown County under way, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation are moving into the next phase to realign the route at its junction with S.R. 763, north of Aberdeen.
The project includes reconstructing the alignment of S.R. 41 with a spiral curve, realigning the intersection with S.R. 763 to improve its width, and removing the intersection of Township Road 563 (Slickaway Road). The project also includes correcting horizontal and vertical deficiencies, as well as geo-technical work to improve the hillside slope.
Although preliminary work to clear and prep the site began in early March, crews from the John R. Jurgensen Company are now ready to start major roadway reconstruction, and they will close S.R. 41 and S.R. 763 at their junction on Monday, May 1.
The closure will be in effect for approximately 160 days, and while the intersection is closed, thru-traffic motorists will be detoured by way of U.S. 52, S.R. 136 and S.R. 125 in Adams County. A local detour will also be maintained for residents.
The John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati was awarded a contract for $2,446,346 to complete the project, and all work is anticipated to be completed in mid-fall of this year.
The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
