Brown-505 Now Open Following Slip Repair
State Route 251 Culvert Projects On Tap Next Week
Chillicothe (Thursday, May 13, 2010) – Following an emergency slip repair project that forced its closure for more than a week, state Route 505 in Brown County is now open to traffic.
The route was closed Sunday, May 2, just north of U.S. Route 52 at Higginsport, after an approximately two-by-sixty-foot section of earth alongside the route slid and caused the shoulder to sag and start to give way.
Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility have been working since to repair the slip, driving piling, placing stone and setting asphalt before reopening the route today, May 13.

Brown County crews will also return to a culvert replacement project on state Route 251, with the route being closed to traffic four days next week.
On Tuesday, May 18, crews will close the route just north of County Road 9 (Park Road), or the 1.86-mile marker, to replace a pipe at this location. Then on Wednesday, May 19, they will replace a pipe located at the 2.77-mile marker, just north of St. Martin and the route’s junction with state Route 123.
Both of these are single-day projects in which the road will be closed to traffic between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day and then reopened to evening and overnight travel.
The route will also be closed Thursday through Friday, May 20-21, for a two-day culvert replacement at the 3.75-mile marker, between County Road 312 (Kernan Road) and the Clinton County line. This closure will also go into effect at 8 a.m.Thursday; however, the route will remain closed until all work is completed, which is anticipated to be approximately 4 p.m. Friday.
During all periods of closure, motorists will be detoured via U.S. Route 50 and U.S. Route 68 in Clinton County.
