Brown County Maintenance Crews Tackling Emergency Repairs
S.R. 763 Collapse Leads To Culvert Replacement, Pavement Repairs
Chillicothe (Tuesday, September 8, 2015) – A culvert failure on state Route 763 has led to an emergency replacement and repair project, and work by crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility is already under way.
Last week, S.R. 763 was reduced to one lane at the 11.0-mile marker, between Township Road 24 (W. Fork Road) and S.R. 353, after it was discovered that a culvert had collapsed along the route’s southbound lane. Having since designed and outlined the plans to replace the culvert, Brown County maintenance crews are working this week to install footers and headwalls in preparation to set a new culvert next week.
On Monday, September 14, crews will close S.R. 763 to install the culvert and repair the pavement. The closure will go into effect at approximately 8 a.m., and it will remain in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 16, or until all work is completed. The schedule to set the new culvert and, in turn, close the route will be contingent upon the weather and the completion of the preliminary work that is under way this week.
Currently, the route is reduced to one lane, and traffic is being maintained with temporary signals. However, once the route is closed, motorists will be detoured by way of S.R. 353, U.S. 62/68, U.S. 52 and S.R. 41.
