Closer To Completion, Keystone Furnace Scheduled To Reopen
Additional, Temporary Restrictions Slated For U.S. 35
Chillicothe (Tuesday, August 25, 2015) – With construction for a grade separation project at U.S. Route 35 in Jackson County moving closer to completion, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 will open another segment of reconstructed roadway this week.
Since early August, County Road 9 (Keystone Furnace Road) has been closed from its junction with U.S. 35 to just east of C.R. 79 (Clary Road) for reconstruction of this segment of roadway that leads to the new overpass, or grade separation, over U.S. 35.
On Wednesday, August 26, crews from Beaver Excavating will reopen Keystone Furnace Road to traffic traveling to and from westbound U.S. 35. The contractors will then proceed to the final phase of construction by removing the median crossover on U.S. 35, reducing the route to one lane in each direction at its intersection with McCarty Lane on the eastbound side and Keystone Furnace Road on the westbound side.
The lane restrictions on U.S. 35 are anticipated to be in effect through mid-September, and with the elimination of the crossover, motorists wanting to cross U.S. 35 will be diverted by way of the new overpass via Industry Drive and Acey Avenue. In addition, McCarty Lane and Keystone Furnace Road traffic will then be limited to right-in/right-out only turns to and from U.S. 35 in the opposing directions.
The entire project includes the construction of an overpass to relocate the intersection of McCarty Lane and Keystone Furnace Road with U.S. 35, as well as relocating Industry Drive, McCarty Lane and Acey Avenue and constructing a roundabout at the McCarty Lane and Acey Avenue intersection.
Beaver Excavating was awarded a contract for approximately $4.86 million to construct the grade separation, and the project is anticipated to be completed by the end of Summer 2015.
