Construction Projects On Tap In Ross County
Chillicothe - With spring around the corner, the Ohio Department of Transportation is looking ahead to its construction season, and according to District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, two of this year’s many projects will be getting under way in the coming week.
“This year’s construction season will be a busy one for our district, and we have contractors getting an early start with two much-anticipated projects in Ross County,” said Brushart.
On Monday, March 9, construction will begin for a bike path connector over state Route 104 at Chillicothe, as well as for a turn-lane addition on U.S. Route 50 at Lancaster Road.
The bike path project includes the construction of a bridge over Ohio-104 to connect the path over the highway where it is bisected at the northern corporation limit of Chillicothe. The turn-lane addition calls for the construction of west and eastbound left-turn lanes at the intersection of U.S. 50 and County Road 213A (Lancaster Road), approximately 5.5 miles east of Chillicothe.
DGM Inc. of Beaver, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of $541,702 to complete the turn-lane addition on U.S. 50, while the Double Z Construction Company of Columbus, Ohio, will be constructing the bike path bridge for approximately $1.2 million. The projects are scheduled to be completed July 31 and September 30, respectively.
Throughout the first phase of construction for both projects, there should be little impact to traffic; however, motorists are reminded to exercise caution when crews are in the work zones.
“While our efforts do create an impact to the traveling public, they are necessary to maintain the integrity of our routes, improve our infrastructure and provide enhancement, so it is important to remind motorists of the need for additional safety when they are traveling in construction and maintenance work zones,” said Brushart.
