Construction Under Way In Shawnee State Park
Chillicothe - A resurfacing and culvert replacement project is under way in Shawnee State Forest, with some forest roads and lots subject to lane restrictions and closure.
According to Ohio Department of Transportation District 9 Deputy Director James Brushart, crews from the Shelly Company will be paving along Forest Roads 5 and 9, as well as resurfacing parking lots for the park office and lodge. The contractors will also be replacing a series of culverts and paving along Forest Roads 2 and 16.
While crews are working in the park, routes and lots will be subject daytime and 24-hour closure, and motorists will be detoured locally during these times. In addition, motorists may encounter some intermittent periods of delay as roadways will be subject to lane restrictions and temporary (short-term) closure.
The Shelly Company of Thornville, Ohio, was awarded a contract in the amount of approximately $900,000 to complete the project, and the scheduled completion date is October 31, 2008.
