County Road Bridge Replacement Slated To Begin
OBPP project in Lawrence County will get under way April 18
Chillicothe (Friday, April 8, 2016) – As part of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Partnership Program to provide local governments with the funds needed to replace or repair locally-owned bridges, a bridge replacement project on County Road 13 (Long Creek Road) will soon be under way.
Through the Ohio Bridge Partnership Program, approximately $120 million will be invested to repair or replace nearly 220 county and city bridges statewide through Fiscal Year 2017. Projects meeting eligibility criteria will be designed and constructed through the ODOT-Let process with 100% federal funds, meaning no local match funding will be required.
“ODOT has been working with the Ohio County Engineers Association and our local partners to help counties and cities improve the condition of their bridges and make Ohio’s bridges safer,” said ODOT District 9 Deputy Director Vaughn Wilson. “Although these bridges are not on ODOT’s state highway system, they are still part of Ohio’s transportation network and fixing them is key to maintaining a safe and efficient highway system.”
Construction on Long Creek Road is scheduled to start April 18, with crews from Shelly & Sands, Inc. closing the route to traffic just north of the road’s junction with C.R. 37 (Scottown-Lecta Road). While the route is closed, motorists will be detoured locally and by way of Scottown-Lecta Road and S.R. 775.
In addition to the Watson Creek structure, bridges on C.R. 6 (Deering-Bald Knob Road) – just south of S.R. 141 – and on C.R. 4 (Etna-Waterloo Road) – just east of S.R. 93 – will also be replaced as part of the project. A schedule to start construction at these locations has yet to be determined; however, once work begins the routes will be closed, and traffic will be detoured locally.
Shelly & Sands was awarded a contract for approximately $1.05 million to replace the three bridges, and all work should be completed by late summer.
