Crews Still Working To Combat Snow And Ice
Chillicothe (Friday, January 17, 2014 – 5:45 p.m.) – With intermittent snow showers and snow squalls still moving through the area, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 highway maintenance facilities continue working this evening.
Currently, pavement conditions vary on the state highway system, from snow covered and slushy to clear and wet; however, this can change quickly as snow will stick to wet pavement and cover the road. In addition, roadways that are wet or slushy are also likely to be slick and icy as the temperature has dipped below freezing.
Snowplow operators from ODOT’s garages in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties will patrol, treat and plow roads as needed tonight, but motorists need to exercise additional caution. Along with reducing their speed, drivers need to allow additional travel time and maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles.
Motorists are also reminded to give ODOT crews room to work. A snowplow operator’s field of vision is restricted, so it is important that drivers keep their distance and watch for sudden stops.
