Crews Continue Clearing Routes
Pike, Jackson County Routes Now open
Chillicothe – Ohio Department of Transportation crews in several District 9 counties will continue working to clear the state highway system this evening; however, motorists are advised of snow, ice and slick conditions, as well as road closures.
Currently, state Route 125 in Scioto County is the only state route in District 9 which remains closed due to downed power lines. It is expected that the route will be closed through the weekend, although the route will be closed to all traffic until such time that the lines have been restored.
All other routes in the District 9 area that were affected by this week’s winter storm are open and passable, including state Route 551 in Pike County and state Route 139 in Jackson County; however, many routes are still partly snow covered with a hard pack of ice. While crews are working to clear the packed ice on roadways, they are also treating for blowing and drifting snow.
Motorists are advised to continue exercising extreme caution and to allow additional travel time. They are also advised of sagging tree branches that may fall with gusts of wind, and they are reminded that routes that are clear and wet may be slick or become icy with tonight’s cold temperatures.
Additional travel information, driver safety tips and statewide road conditions can be found on ODOT’s Buckeye Traffic web site at www.buckeyetraffic.org.
ODOT District 9 includes Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties.
