Culvert Projects Slated For Brown-286

Chillicothe - Crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation Brown County Highway Maintenance Facility are preparing for a series of culvert replacement projects on state Route 286 that will require the route to be closed on various days throughout the month of May.

According to Transportation Administrator Barry Daniels, there are four deteriorated culverts to be replaced, with three situated west of County Road 311 (Gauche Road), near the Brown-Clinton County line, and one located just east of the route’s junction with U.S. Route 68 at Fivemile.

For each culvert to be replaced crews will close the route for one day; however, completion of each culvert replacement will be contingent upon the weather. Currently, the first closure is scheduled to be imparted Friday, May 16, at the route’s 0.11-mile marker and near the Clinton County line.

Other daytime closures will follow on subsequent days during the week of May 19, with culvert replacement projects at the 0.73, 0.80 and 5.04-mile markers, respectively. On days that crews are able to facilitate the project, the route will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with it being opened to evening and overnight travel.

The posted detour for motorists traveling when S.R. 286 is closed west of Gauche Road will be U.S. 68 and U.S. Route 50. During the final culvert replacement project at the 5.04-mile marker near Fivemile, motorists will be detoured via U.S. 68 and state routes 131 and 134.
