Construction For Emergency Bridge Repair Slated To Begin
Scioto-852 South To Be Closed Next Week
Chillicothe (Wednesday, April 4, 2012) – A bridge repair project in Scioto County will get under way next week as the Ohio Department of Transportation has awarded an emergency contract to repair the state Route 852 overpass bridge located just west of Portsmouth.
On Wednesday, April 11, crews from BUDS, Incorporated will close the southbound lane of S.R. 852 where it crosses over U.S. Route 52 to repair the support beams. In addition to repairing the concrete and treating it with epoxy injections, the contractors will apply a fiberglass polymer wrap to the beams.
Throughout construction, southbound S.R. 852 will be closed at the “U” ramp to U.S. 52, and traffic will be detoured via the ramp to U.S. 52 West to S.R. 239 and then back to S.R. 852 South via U.S. 52 East.
Motorists traveling from Kentucky and the Carl Perkins Bridge should not be affected by this closure as northbound S.R. 852 will remain open. However, motorists are advised to exercise additional caution in the work zone.
BUDS, Inc., of Nashport, Ohio, was awarded a contract in late March in the amount of approximately $63,000 to repair the structure that was damaged in February as a result of a collision. The closure of Ohio-852 South is scheduled to be in effect for approximately three weeks, and the completion of all work will be contingent upon the weather.
