Emergency Contracts Move Repair Work Ahead
Contractors Begin Work On Brown-62, 125
Chillicothe (Monday, July 20, 2015) – Working quickly to expedite emergency repair projects on U.S. Route 62 and state Route 125 in Brown County, officials from the Ohio Department of Transportation – District 9 have announced that construction is already under way on both routes.
On Saturday, July 18, severe storms throughout the area caused extreme flooding and washouts, leaving behind significant damage to pavement and culverts on numerous routes. As a result, S.R. 125 was closed between C.R. 18 (Eden Road) and S.R. 221 at Georgetown, where the asphalt buckled and was ripped from its base. In addition, U.S. 62 was closed south of Russellville, where the culvert and pavement collapsed between C.R. 36 (Gooselick Road) and C.R. 15 (George Miller Road).
According to ODOT District 9 Vaughn Wilson, Type A emergency contracts were awarded to Brown County Asphalt and the Shelly Company to begin restoration efforts on U.S. 62 and S.R. 125, respectively, and work began this afternoon with the contractors mobilizing equipment and crews.
“Our construction and highway management staff have been working diligently to expedite these projects so that we may restore the routes to traffic as quickly as possible,” said Wilson. “With a Type A emergency contract, we are able to have the contractors begin working immediately.”
Although the duration of closure of either route is unknown, officials anticipate both roads will be open to traffic by the weekend. In the interim, U.S. 62 motorists are being detoured via S.R. 125 at Russellville, U.S. 68 at Georgetown and U.S. 62 at Red Oak, and S.R. 125 traffic is being detoured by way of U.S. 68 and S.R. 774.
