Emergency Culvert Replacement Continues On Scioto-522
Route Should Be Open Friday Afternoon
Chillicothe (Tuesday, March 14, 2017) – Although cold temperatures are slowing progress, crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Scioto County Highway Maintenance Facility are working to restore state Route 522, and the route should be open by the end of the week.
S.R. 522 was closed between Township Road 262 (Mill Road) and T.R. 260 (Goose Creek Road) on March 2 after the pavement suffered extensive damage and a culvert located at the 3.71-mile marker was undermined due to flash flooding.
Since clearing the area and removing the deteriorated pipe last week, crews have installed the new culvert, and they have started to place low-strength mortar (LSM). Providing the temperature is conducive on Wednesday and Thursday, they will place additional LSM and concrete to complete the pavement repairs and reopen the route on Friday, March 17.
The schedule to complete all work will be contingent upon the weather, and while the route remains closed, motorists will continue to be detoured by way of U.S. 52 and S.R. 650 in Lawrence County.
